Sarah Paulson and Allison Pill in American Horror Story: Cult |
If you haven't been watching the FX series, American Horror Story: Cult, you are missing out on one of the gayest shows on TV right now. The lead characters are lesbians, the neighbor, played by out actor Billy Eichner is also gay. Chaz Bono plays a conservative grocery store worker. The creator of the show is gay (Ryan Murphy) and many of the actors in the cast are gay, including Cheyenne Jackson and Colton Haynes.
The seventh season of the anthology series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk explores the 2016 presidential election clown show. The the lead character is liberal Ally Mayfair-Richards, played by the always amazing Sarah Paulson, and her extreme disappointment at the outcome of the election triggers her clown phobia. Her wife Ivy, played by Allison Pill, tries to be supportive, but she is a lot of work.
The Hollywood Reporter review says, "As satirically subtle as a room full of knife-wielding lunatics in clown costumes, Cult may also be the franchise's most accessible entry, though that may depend on your tolerance for political talk and, of course, knife-wielding lunatics in clown costumes."
From the USA Today review: "Did we mention clowns? They're everywhere. Twisty (John Carroll Lynch), the sadistic killer from AHS: Freak Show, makes a frightening return, as do a slew of newcomers with creatively bizarre visages and activities, including clown sex."
The show may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is scary, campy fun. The fourth episode airs tonight, September 26. It is not too late to catch up on-demand.
