On This Day -- In 1989 Doogie Howser, M.D. Premiered



Doogie Howser, M.D. is an American comedy series that ran for four seasons on ABC from September 19, 1989, to March 24, 1993, totaling 97 episodes. Created by Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley, the show stars Neil Patrick Harris in the title role as a teenage physician who balances the challenge of practicing medicine with the everyday problems of teenage life.

Harris would go on to star in How I Met Your Mother, and appear in numerous other movie, theater, and television projects.  He has earned a Tony Award for starring in the Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, as well as numerous Emmy Awards, primarily for hosting the Tony Awards.
