LGBTQ Christmas Romance Novels Emerge As a Thing

Whether or not you are involved in a romance this Christmas, there certainly is plenty of action going on in the world of LGBTQ Christmas literature. The specific genre of LGBTQ Christmas romance novels is kind of a thing now. There are countless books out there available electronically, intending to make your heart pitter-patter this holiday season. Below is just a small sample of some of them.

In Case of Emergency by Keira Andrews is about former stepbrothers Daniel and Cole. Daniel is about to leave for a cozy Christmas getaway with his new man when he gets the call from the ER that Cole has been admitted.  There's no one else to look after him and strict doctor's orders not to be left alone. So fine, Daniel will bring him along on vacation to make sure he doesn't starve or fall into a coma. This fluffy gay Christmas romance  features sexy hot-tub shenanigans, cuddling by the fire, and of course (spoiler alert) a happy ending.

Another story by Keira Andrews, If Only In My Dreams, features desperate Charlie Yates. It’s almost Christmas and his flight home from college has been delayed. For days. Charlie promised his little sister he’d be home for her first holiday season since going into remission from leukemia. Now he’s stuck on the opposite coast and someone else grabbed the last rental car. Someone he hasn’t even spoken to in 4 years and who broke his heart. This gay holiday romance  features new adult angst, steamy first times, and of course (spoiler alert) a happy ending.

Desperately Seeking Santa, by Eli Easton, is about journalism student Gabe Martin's first professional assignment—to write about a Christmas charity dinner. It sounds like a total snooze-fest until Gabe learns that the event’s Santa is a mystery man. Uncovering Santa’s identity sounds like the perfect angle to turn a fluff piece into serious journalism. Mack “The Mountain” McDonall, is an enormous star wrestler. As Gabe researches  he learns that Mack has secrets a guy famous for being a brute wouldn’t want the world to know. Can Gabe find his holiday spirit, write a killer article, win the heart of a surly giant, and give everyone a very merry Christmas? (Spoiler alert) I am betting the answer is yes.
 
This genre is not limited to just gay romance. There is also literature for the ladies with a holiday theme.

All I Want for Christmas by Clare Lydon is about Tori Hammond on a mission to find love. Her ideal present under the tree would be a shiny new girlfriend, so Tori gives herself one month to find that special lady by December 25th. (Spoiler alert) Christmas spells romance and she’s going to grab some.  

In Gifted, by Edie Bryan, it's Christmastime and Elaine has a fantastic surprise for her longterm girlfriend, Jenna. She's going to propose they get a puppy, which Jenna has wanted to do for a long time now. But when Elaine finds out that Jenna has been cheating on her and is pregnant, she ends things immediately and decides to get a puppy for herself instead. Despite being heartbroken, she likes the idea rescuing an animal in need this holiday season. Even if it feels like her life is in shambles, that doesn't mean she can't do some good. But when she goes to the animal shelter and meets Gillian... well you get the idea. 

This genre also includes the "T" in LGBTQ: The Christmas Trap, Transgender First Time, by Nikki Crescent is about Cindy, who has always been upfront with guys about the fact she used to be a man. But every time she tells a guy her secret, she gets the same reaction: a combination of disgust and shock. Her family has started to worry about her failing love life, and she’s starting to think she’s destined to be alone forever. Until one day she decides to try something different—keeping her reality a secret with the cute guy who owns a little bookstore near her home.
