Connecticut Nominee Would Be First Out Chief Justice On a State Supreme Court

The Hartford Courant reports:

Gov. Dannel Malloy on Monday nominated [Connecticut] state Supreme Court Justice Andrew J. McDonald to be Chief Justice of the state’s high court.

If confirmed by the state legislature, McDonald will be the state’s first openly gay chief justice and the first in the continental U.S. Gay chief justices have been appointed in Puerto Rico and Guam, which are U.S. territories.

McDonald, 51 and a long time political ally of Malloy, has been considered the likely, next chief justice since current Chief Justice Chase T. Rogers disclosed in November that she plans to retire in early February.
