GLAAD reports:
“LGBTQ stories told right are a hit with critics and audiences across the world and worthy of recognition. This year the Golden Globes have chosen to recognize a strong roster of outstanding LGBTQ inclusive works like 'Will & Grace,' 'Call Me by Your Name,' 'The Shape of Water' and 'A Fantastic Woman,'” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “Now more than ever, powerful LGBTQ characters and narratives are necessary to accelerate acceptance, and these shows and films give us reason to celebrate today.”
On the television side, NBC’s “Will & Grace,” Showtime's "SMILF," and Netflix’s “Master of None” received nods in the Best Television Series - Comedy category. On the Best Television Series drama category, NBC’s “This is Us,” and Hulu’s “The Handmaid's Tale” both received nominations. Both series included LGBTQ storylines. In the Best Actor in TV Series Musical or Comedy category, Eric McCormack received a nod for his role as Will Truman in the revival of “Will & Grace.”
In the television limited series television category, FX’s “Feud: Bette and Joan,” and Sundance TV’s “Top of the Lake: China Girl” received nominations. Both shows included LGBTQ characters.
There were several LGBTQ-inclusive films nominated. In the Foreign Language film category “A Fantastic Woman” received one of the five spots. The film is Chile’s official submission for Oscar consideration and is notable for its transgender lead actress, Daniela Vega, who plays a trans opera singer in the film. In a surprise, France’s Oscar submission “BPM: (Beats Per Minute)" did not receive a nomination.
‘“Call Me By Your Name” and “The Shape of Water” were both nominated in the Best Motion Picture Drama category.
“The Shape of Water” lead the way for films with seven overall nominations. Richard Jenkins received a nomination in the Actor in a Supporting Role category, for playing a gay man, Giles.
Timothée Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for playing Elio in “Call Me by Your Name.” Armie Hammer also received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for playing Oliver.
In the Best Picture Musical or Comedy category, “Lady Bird” received a nomination; the film features a poignant LGBTQ-inclusive storyline and Greta Gerwig also received a nomination for Best Screenplay.
In the Best Actress Musical or Comedy category, Emma Stone received a nomination for her portrayal of tennis great Billie Jean King in “Battle of the Sexes.”

There have been so many good views on 'Lady Bird' that I can't wait to see it.
Trouble is, doesn't open here for over TWO months yet!
Emma Stone as Billie Jean King? - yes, I'm more than pleased to endorse that.
'Call Me By Your Name' is getting a worryingly (to me) lot of attention as the awards season approaches, and seems it could even pick up an Oscar or two. Pity then that as I've started to compile my annual list of 10 favourite films of the year it's not going to appear. Too bad.
